This Week
Ron Bouchard's Vintage Auto Show

Was unable to do much last week because of problems with the "High
Speed" Internet Connection which is supposedly fixed, after they were here
three times last week. But anyway, the place to be on Saturday September
23rd will be Ron Bouchard's Auto Store in Fitchburg, Mass. for his annual
Vintage Race Car Show. On Hand will be the NEAR Hall
 of
Fame Mobile Museum along with a host of vintage race cars and not so vintage
drivers. Former drivers and Hall of Famers who have been in attendance
in previous years include of course Ron besides Kenny Bouchard,
George Summers, Ray Miller, Wild Bill Slater, Bugs Stevens, Leo Cleary,
Billy Harman, Beaver Dragon, Pete Hamilton and a host of others.

Thirty-five years ago in 1971, the Modifieds and Busch
Grandnationals shared the twin bill at Martinsville. Ray Hendrick
was the 250 lap GN winner. The modified 250 saw on of the biggest
wrecks ever as over a dozen cars piled up in turn four in the
closing stages. Sneaking thru and taking a surprise win was popular
Bernie Miller from Cannestota, N.Y. Jimmy Hensley finished second.
Bobby Santos finished third and was followed by Leo Cleary, Jerry
Cook and Mike Loescher. Fred DeSarro was the defending national
champion and the outside pole sitter.
