Moon Burgess, one of the Great Drivers from the 50's drove his first race in 1947 at the Thompson Speedway. As with many of the drivers in the early days of Stock Car Racing, Moon was at home on dirt and asphalt tracks racing at Stafford, Danbury, Plainville, Savin Rock, Riverside Park as well as many New York Tracks.
In 1951 Moon won over 40 features on the tracks of New England and New York driving the #1 Joe Fontana 1939 Chevy Coupe powered by a GMC 302 in-line 6 cyl. truck engine.
Besides his 4 career wins at Riverside Park Speedway between 1950 and 1953, Moon also holds the distinction of being the first driver to flip a stock car out of Riverside.
