MOOSE HEWITT


The late GEORGE "MOOSE" HEWITT, a former Motorcycle Racing Champion in the late 50's and early 60's  got his start Stock Car Racing at the Waterford Speedbowl in the mid 60's in the Bomber Division winning 2 features in 1966 before moving on to the Modifieds and winning his 1st Modified Race in 1968 and going on to become a Waterford Speedbowl legend.  Moose won 5 Modified Championships at the Speedbowl, 1977 & 78, 1981 & 82 and 1984.


Besides his wins at Waterford and other tracks,  Moose also has 4 wins at Stafford Motor Speedway between 1970 and 1975, including the Winston 100 on Memorial Day Weekend in 1975,  beating the likes of  Steady Eddie Flemke,  Bugs Stevens and Fred DeSarro.

Moose passed away of a Heart Attack in 1997.
